Accidents at work

House on fire

Under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995, certain incidents involving employees or other persons, including members of the public, arising from work activities must be reported to the Enforcing Authority.

The following events fall within the requirements to notify:

  • fatalities
  • specified major injuries
  • injuries that result in absence from work for over three days
  • injuries to a person not at work who is taken to hospital for treatment directly from the premises
  • dangerous occurrences
  • industrial diseases.

In each of those cases, except for an over three day injury, notification must be made to the Enforcing Authority immediately by the fastest possible means, and this must be followed by a Formal Report on Form F2508 within 10 days. Notification can also be given via the Incident Contact Centre 0845 3009923.
In the case of an over 3 day injury to a person at work, a written report must be sent to the Enforcing Authority on Form F2508 within 10 days or notified via the Incident Contact Centre.

A Guide to Reporting Under RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurances Regulations 1995), including a blank F2508 form is available from our offices free of charge
