 Breckland recognises that the Council through its services and operations has an impact on the environment and is committed to working to a more sustainable future. The Council is starting to consult on a new strategy which sets out the key challenges facing both the Council and the District as a whole and identifies the environmental aims, objectives and priorities.
Engaging with a wide range of partners, organisations and businesses will be crucial to the success of the Strategy and will lead to the development of a detailed action plan.
The Strategy identifies 3 key priorities;
•Tackling climate change
•Protecting the natural environment and resources
•Improving the local environment.
The Strategy will also focus on the following;
•Environmental Management and Awareness.
•Energy Waste, Water, and Air Quality
•Transport
•Built and Natural Environment
•Green procurement.
The strategy acknowledges the impact of climate change on our community in the 21st century and commits the Council to tackling the causes and effects of a changing climate on our district.
The Council will act as a local leader giving advice and guidance on environmental issues and by working with businesses, housing developers residents and many others, to improve energy efficiency, local energy generation and use of water, improved transport and by reducing waste.
Guidance for individuals, organisations and businesses to reduce their environmental impact will also be produced and will include advice on water conservation, bio diversity, energy conservation, green purchasing, transport, waste and recycling.
