 This is a helpful glossary of terms and phrases that you may have come across.
Aim
The direction in which efforts are made to obtain a specific goal.
Area Partnership
Breckland district has 7 area partnerships, 5 based in and around the 5 market towns and 2 rural partnerships. They are constituted organisations who work in partnership with local groups, businesses and council in order to improve the area economically and socially.
Capacity Building
The growth of techniques and skills, knowledge of individuals and organisations.
Community Development
Community Development is about bringing groups, organisations and local people together to identify local needs and bring about improvements which strengthen the effectiveness of communities and improve the overall quality of life.
Community of Interest
A community of identified grouping of people who share common bounds outside of geographical space.
Community of Place
A community identified by geographical area recognised by a boundary such as town, parish, village or neighbourhood.
Community Participation
The enablement of people in the community to become active and contribute to the decisions in their lives and areas.
Connexions
Is a Government Agency set up to offer young people information and guidance on learning and careers.
Consultation
The involvement of the community throughout the decision making process.
Evaluation
The procedure of assessing the value of a project as it comes to a close, allowing the successes and failures to be identified through reflection and improvements suggested for future projects.
Input
The allocation of resources and activities for the implementation of projects and processes.
Local Strategic Partnership (LSP)
An overarching partnership of stakeholders and key decision makers from the community.
Match Funding
Funders will only cover a percentage of the total cost of the project and the remaining funds must be matched by other Funders.
Monitoring
The continual observation and management of inputs, processes, outputs and outcomes and the responsibility of facing any problems occurring.
Objectives
The steps taken to achieve the overall aim. Objectives should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound (SMART).
Outputs
Outputs should be measureable, they are actions, the things you are going to do. Output leads to outcomes. An example of an output for a play area would be the installation of play equiptment.
Outcomes
Outcomes are a result of outputs. In the example of the play area the outcome would be improved health and stimulation for children.
Village Appraisal
This is an audit of a village as it is now in the eyes of the community with an action plan developed detailing projects to improve things in the future.
Regional Development Agency (RDA)
There are 9 Regional Development Agencies across the country responsible for developing the economic strategy fosr the region.Breckland District is in the East of England and is connected to the East of England Development Agency (EEDA).
Stakeholders
Those with on interest whether user, partner, employee, resident in an organisation or process.
Social Inclusion
When people are able to make choices which make a difference to themselves, their families and their communities.
Social Exclusion
When individuals or areas are excluded from the normal exchanges, practices and rights of society.
