Breckland Council aims to protect and enhance the landscape as a visual amenity and to protect and encourage biodiversity in keeping with our local policies, national and international obligations.
The district contains many notable sites for nature conservation most of which are designated or administered by dedicated organisations such as The Norfolk Wildlife Trust and English Nature.
The Tree and Countryside section fulfils the following functions:
- consultees to Development Services in the determination of applications for planning consent
- sponsors and advisors to the Wensum Valley Project and The Brecks Countryside Project
- representatives on the Norfolk Biodiversity Action Plan Steering Group
- partners in habitat surveys – e.g. of veteran trees and fens.
Biodiversity represents the amazing richness and variety of plants, birds, animals and insects. Biodiversity is all living things, from the tiny garden ant to the giant redwood tree. You will find biodiversity everywhere, in window boxes and wild woods, roadsides and rain forests, snow fields and on the sea shore.
