We are responsible for maintaining highways and relevant land to a standard of cleanliness as defined within the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The Act categorises areas into different Zones and the requirements on us should these areas fall below an acceptable level of cleanliness. For example; a town centre that requires cleaning would have to be cleaned within a much shorter time frame than an area on the outskirts of town.
- highways means adopted roads and footpaths including grass verges and laybys
- relevant land means land that is owned by us.
Our aim is to keep the environment as clean and pleasant as possible by routine cleaning of all areas of the district, with the flexibility to respond to concerns or issues raised by you. Our street cleaning service is provided in partnership with service provider Serco Ltd.
This service includes the following elements:
- cleaning of streets, including sweeping and litter picking
- emptying of litter and dog waste bins
- fly tipping
- dead animals
- needles and syringes
- dog fouling
- graffiti
- fly posting
