Bulky items

Bulky household waste such as fridges, cookers, sofas, bed frames/bases, furniture etc can be disposed of free of charge at the following Recycling Centres:

  • Ashill, between South Pickenham and Ashill on the B1077 Swaffham to Watton Road
  • Thetford, Burrell Way, Thetford.  Close to Sainsburys supermarket
  • Snetterton, Snetterton Heath.  Leave A11 at Snetterton race track, approx ¼ mile past race track entrance, on left hand side, just before sharp right hand bend.
  • Hempton, Helhoughton Road, Fakenham.  Take A1065 south out of Fakenham.  HWRC is signed from the A1065 on the ‘S’ bend

If you are unable to take your bulky waste to a Recycling Centre, we offer a collection service. The Bulky Waste Collection Service is a chargeable service for the collection of larger household items; items that can and can't be collected are listed a little further down this page.

The cost for the service is:

  • 1 to 3 Items: £20
  • 4 to 6 Items: £40

We can only collect a maximum of six items from a single household.

We aim to collect the items from your property within 10 working days. The items need to be placed at the front of your property, or in a position where they are accessible for collection, by 7am.

Payment for the service will need to be received in advance of the collection and can be made by

  • telephoning 01362 656878 to use a debit or credit card
  • sending a cheque or postal order made payable to "Serco" to

Please include a covering letter stating your name, address, a contact telephone number and the items you would like collected.

Small household items such as kettles, toasters, radios etc can be taken to the household waste recycling centres listed above and put in the ‘electrical’ section.

Items that can be collected

  • 3 piece suites, sofas and armchairs
  • beds, mattresses, headboards and cots
  • carpets, underlay and lino
  • cookers and microwaves
  • cupboards, bookcases, wardrobes, tables and desks
  • freezers, fridges and dishwashers
  • TVs, Hi Fi and computers
  • washing machines and tumble dryers

Items that cannot be collected

  • fixtures and fittings
    e.g. bathroom suites and kitchen units
  • doors and windows
  • sheds, fence panels and gates
  • central heating boilers, immersion tanks and oil tanks
  • brick rubble, wood and paving slabs
  • DIY waste

Options for disposing of items which cannot be collected

  • reuse it within your own house, or give it to someone who can.
  • use a waste bag service available from DIY stores.
  • hire a skip from a private contractor
    see local advertising, look under Skip Hire or Waste Disposal Services in Yellow Pages or www.yell.co.uk
  • take it to a Disposal Point operated by Norfolk County Council
