Garden waste can be disposed of in the following ways:

By composting at home

  • Reduced price composters are available to Breckland residents
  • A composter free trial is available to Breckland residents

By taking it to a Recycling Centre

Garden waste can be disposed of free of charge at a Recycling Centre.
The centres are located at:

  • Ashill, between South Pickenham and Ashill on the B1077 Swaffham to Watton Road
  • Thetford, Burrell Way, Thetford.  Close to Sainsburys supermarket
  • Snetterton, Snetterton Heath.  Leave A11 at Snetterton race track, approx ¼ mile past race track entrance, on left hand side, just before sharp right hand bend.
  • Hempton, Helhoughton Road, Fakenham.  Take A1065 south out of Fakenham.  HWRC is signed from the A1065 on the ‘S’ bend

By using our Garden Waste Collection Scheme

We offer a chargeable garden waste collection service.

For a charge of £34 per year, residents will be provided with a 240 litre brown wheeled bin which will be collected 26 times a year on a fortnightly basis.

  • garden waste needs to be placed loose in the bin – Not in Bags
  • only the contents of the wheeled bin will be collected
    additional garden waste placed beside the bin will not be collected
  • the lid of the bin needs to be closed
  • the bin must be placed at the edge of the property by 7am on the morning of collection
  • a calendar will be provided advising the collection dates
  • residents can have more than one garden waste bin
    the yearly charge is levied on each bin the resident requests
  • you can share a brown bin with a neighbour
    the bin will need to be registered with one resident only.

What can go in the Brown Garden Waste Bin?

Yes

  • hedge clippings
  • cut flowers
  • grass cuttings
  • leaves
  • shrub prunings
  • twigs and small bracken
  • vegetable waste from the garden

No

  • large items of garden waste, e.g. tree trunks
  • fruit, salad or vegetable peelings
  • eggshells
  • tea bags
  • cooked food including vegetables
  • meat or cooking oil

How to subscribe to the Garden Waste Collection Service

Due to high demand for this service there is currently a 6-8 week wait for garden bins.
