Breckland Council strongly believes that everyone, regardless of race, age, gender, faith/belief, disability or sexual orientation, has the right to be treated with dignity and respect. As a public body which represents all the people who live and work in Breckland, we are conscious of the importance of equality of opportunity and the promotion of good relations between members of different groups in this diverse district.
Comprehensive Equality Policy (including action plan) and Race Equality Scheme
Breckland Council is committed to ensuring good relations with the community, as an employer and in how we deliver services. We have outlined this commitment in our Comprehensive Equality Policy Strategy 2005-2008 2008-10.
More than just a way of meeting our legal responsibilities, we believe this Comprehensive Equality Policy Strategy provides a framework of standards and principles for all our services that will help us promote the economic, social and environmental well-being of the community.
It is a ‘living’ document, which we will revise and update as needs and priorities arise.
We are committed to fulfilling our statutory duties under the Race Relations Act and believe that delivering race equality is one of a number of ways we can promote a thriving, caring and inclusive community. Our aim is to deliver good quality services in a manner that is fair to all people within the district, to ensure everyone is treated fairly, and that our workforce reflects the communities within which we work.
