    Fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence and anyone, including householders, caught disposing of their waste unlawfully can be prosecuted under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

    What is a fly tip?

    Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of rubbish.

    All litter bins are installed by the Town or Parish Council, if you feel there is a need in your area for an additional bin contact your local town or parish council

    The relevant public highways of Breckland need to be regularly swept to make sure that there is no significant build up of materials such as silt, gravel, small items of litter, leaves and blossom.

    Street Care and Cleaning

    We are responsible for maintaining highways and relevant land to a standard of cleanliness as defined within the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The Act categorises areas into different Zones and the requirements on us should these areas fall below an acceptable level of cleanliness.

    We will remove graffiti from buildings and property under our ownership or where we have responsibility.

    Obscene graffiti will be removed within 24 hours, other graffiti will be removed within 14 days.

    Fly posting is the illegal posting of fliers, leaflets and posters onto walls, lampposts, street furniture and bus shelters etc

    There are a number of cigarette litter bins installed around the main five towns of Thetford, Dereham, Swaffham, Attleborough and Watton, for public use. More may be installed in the future.
