    It is Breckland Council's responsibility to licence all taxi drivers, vehicles and operators to ensure the public receive a safe and reliable service. The aim of our Licensing team is to issue the licences for drivers, vehicles and operators in an efficient, transparent and accountable manner whilst ensuring the safety of the public and compliance with existing and future legislation. We are currently reviewing our fees for Hackney Carriage and Private Hire licences, further information on the proposed fees can be viewed online.     Private Hire Vehicle

    A Private Hire Vehicle can only be pre-booked and is not able to be hired from the street or a taxi rank.

    Private Hire Operator

    All Private Hire Operators must be licensed by Breckland Council. This ensures the passengers are confident of using a reputable company with reliable drivers and vehicles. A Private Hire vehicle must be driven by a licensed driver working for a Private Hire Operator. A Private Hire Operators Licence is issued for 3 years.

    It is a condition of your licence that you notify us of any changes, such as a change of address, within 7 days. The table, below, describes the most common changes along with the forms and paperwork you will need to submit to us.

    Breckland Council is able to specify the maximum fare you can be charged when hiring a Hackney Carriage.

    The charges are:

    You will receive notification from us approximately 1 month prior to the expiry of your licence. We must receive the completed renewal application form and all documentation before your current licence expires. If you fail to meet the renewal deadline you will be required to make a new application for a vehicle licence.
