What is a Community Ranger?
A Community Ranger is a community minded Breckland resident keen to keep their local environment looking its best.
As a Community Ranger, what will I be doing?
As you go about your normal daily activities you may come across issues concerning the quality of your local environment, such as, litter, fly-tipping, blocked drains, broken street lights etc. Breckland Council will provide you with an A-Z handbook that will give you the necessary information to report these issues to the appropriate agencies These could be Breckland Council, Anglian Water, Norfolk County Council, Environment Agency etc
Breckland Council’s Enforcement Officer will investigate reports of fly-tipping and we urge the Community Rangers to contact us if they witness anyone disposing of their waste illegally. If you witness such activity, please do not attempt to approach the individual, as you will be putting yourself at risk. If it is safe to do so, please take down as many details as possible and contact us immediately.
You would be invited, if you wish, to join a leaflet panel to give feedback on council publications and this feedback used to further improve them in the future to ensure efficient communication to residents. You may also like to become a campaign facilitator and be kept up to date with current Environmental Services awareness campaigns running in the district and place a poster in your local community.
What does the Handbook contain?
The Handbook is a 32 page A4 booklet. The main part, is an A-Z section covering issues and organisations that are concerned with local environmental quality, such as those mentioned above. Each entry gives you the information needed to learn about and contact the relevant organisation. As well as the A-Z section, there are also sections on waste, local government and land ownership. Click here to view the handbook.
Will I get anything else?
Once you have signed up to be a Community Ranger, we will send you a folder that will contain the Handbook, a notepad for jotting down issues and a selection of leaflets. If you so wish we can also provide you with a litter picking stick, gloves and high visibility vest.
How will Breckland Council keep in contact with me?
We aim to produce three newsletters per year. These will keep you updated about the project and also provide information about topics of interest. We also plan to have an annual Community Ranger meeting.
If you are interested in becoming a Community ranger please contact us for more information.
