Asset review of car parks
Asset review of car parks
Dear Town and Parish Councillors,
Asset Review of Car Parks
For all of us these are challenging financial times and Breckland Council is having to consider difficult options for balancing its budget over the next few years. I am writing to inform you of one of the options to which I am recommending the Council should give consideration.
Following public consultation through the Citizens’ Panel, ratepayers supported the principle that Breckland Council should maximise its assets, as a means of both improving services whilst maintaining downward pressure on costs.
This principle was later incorporated in the Council’s new Business Plan to actively manage ratepayers’ assets to ensure a maximum return or use, and to improve Council services; the Council having regard to the general economic situation. As part of the evaluation and implementation of the Business Plan, the Council will be conducting a review of council car parks, which are among the most strategically important assets owned by the Council.
As part of this review I will request the Breckland Cabinet to provide funding for a comprehensive feasibility study, to consider the implications of introducing charges on council car parks. No decisions have, or will be made, without the Council first seeking the views of residents and businesses.
