Help to get the party planning started
Having a street party is easier than you think! That’s because Breckland Council is running a series of workshops offering support and advice on how to host a street party to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
One million people held street parties for this year's royal wedding and it’s hoped that many more will organise one for the Jubilee. Sharing food, music and best of all laughter are just some of the great things you'll experience at a street party. They can be held by anyone almost anywhere; streets, gardens, community centres and open spaces.
If you are thinking of having a street party - now is the time to get planning. Community Development officers are running a series of workshops around the district to help you plan the perfect party. Fifteen residents from Bawdeswell turned out last week to pick up tips on how to organise a street party, how to engage neighbours and involve everyone, and went away with information on how to go about closing streets, costs and insurance.
Cllr Lynda Turner, Executive member for Localism, Communities and Environmental Awareness said; "Opportunities for community celebration do not come along very often, and we want to help residents to make their plans a reality. It is important that community spirit is not just about pulling together in the hard times, but also about being in contact with your neighbours and celebrating together in the good times. I hope that in the coming weeks, many of our residents will be attending our popular workshops to devise their celebrations. I am sure that they will find our sessions will help to ensure their plans go smoothly."
The next workshop will be held in Necton Rural Community Centre on Tuesday 6th December at 6pm-8.30pm.
If you would like to attend the workshop please call Laura Apps-Green on 01362 656870 or email communities@breckland.gov.uk
