Dog Warden Service

' '

Stray dogs can cause many problems such as causing serious road accidents or biting a child as well as being stressful for the owner of the lost dog.

Our dog warden responds to complaints and will pick up strays. If a dog is picked up and it is wearing a collar or a tag, it is easier to be reunited with its owner.  To report your lost dog you can follow this link to the Lost Dog page.

To report a stray dog you have found, you can follow this link to the Stray Dog page.

We will endeavour to reunite dog and owner as soon as possible, however if this is not possible and the dog has to be kennelled, there will be a charge to cover the kennelling and any veterinary costs.

If the dog is picked up on subsequent occasions and has to be kennelled again, there will be further costs. Please follow the link to the dog warden fees (pdf doc, 8kb)page.

You can contact the Dog Warden on 01362 656870 or via email to

envprotect@breckland.gov.uk.

In addition to Breckland Council's statutory responsibility to deal with stray dogs, as resources have permitted, the service has been developed over the years with a growing emphasis placed upon encouraging responsible dog ownership.

The Department has successfully:

  • designated the whole of Breckland a 'poop scoop area'
  • provided educational talks in schools
  • run a number of micro-chipping days.
  • run a number of dog training classes

Fees for Dog Warden connected services are accessible from this link: dog warden fees (pdf doc, 8kb).
