
Our Economic Development service has links with many community regeneration initiatives, adding value and encouraging new input with a 'business' perspective.
The main roles of the service are to:
- apply policy and strategic thinking to initiatives, ensuring most benefit
- community, cultural and economic regeneration
- encourage take-up of external funding opportunities and of publicly-funded business and skills support services
- assist with inward investment enquiries and procedures
- link with other agencies - voluntary and statutory to ensure business needs are met and opportunities are exploited to their full potential
- work with the Employment Service and other agencies to ensure an appropriately skilled workforce is available for now and the future.
Breckland Enterprise & Learning Account (BELA 3 grant)
Funding has been agreed for phase 3 of the Breckland Enterprise & Learning Account (BELA) grant. BELA is a small flexible grant available to all established and prospective micro businesses (less than 10 employees) in the Breckland district, as long as the applicant fulfils the criteria contained within the guidelines.
The aim of BELA is to support financially viable and stable businesses and business start ups that demonstrate the opportunity to grow. BELA can offer assistance to applicants who often need early stage business and skills support in areas such as:
- Access to crucial or critical training schemes
- Purchase of professional services (i.e. consultancy and advice)
- Purchase/hire of essential small items of equipment.
- Accreditation of quality standards.
- Investment in new, or upgrading of IT software or the development of websites.

Business Link launches anonymous helpline for recession hit business owners
Business Link has launched a helpline that offers anonymity to business owners who want to discuss their business issues without disclosing their identity. Dialling 08453 13 45 10 will put the caller straight through to an experienced information adviser from the service who will provide confidential business support, without asking for contact or identity information.
