During routine food hygiene inspections, environmental health officers assess premises for compliance with the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995.
In some cases a premises will go beyond the standard required by law and demonstrate excellent levels of food safety and hygiene. If the premises and proprietor satisfy a number of criteria, officers put them forward for a Good Food Hygiene Award (GFHA).
