 Advice for Residents
Do not believe the sayings about lightning not striking in the same place twice – it can, it does not always strike the highest object and it always hits the best conductor.
You may find the following information useful in keeping you, your family and property safe.
When a storm is forecast.
- Unplug all non-essential electrical appliances
- Shelter
During the storm.
- Avoid using the phone as telephone lines can conduct electricity
- Avoid using taps and sinks as metal pipes can conduct electricity
- If outside avoid water
- Avoid activities such as golf, rod fishing or boating on a lake
After the storm
- Avoid power lines that may have come down or broken cables
