Breckland Council has conducted a review of polling districts and polling places. Notice of the review, given on 30th July, invited representations from electors within the Mid-Norfolk and South-West Norfolk Parliamentary Constituencies. The views of Members of Parliament, principal local authorities, town and parish councils, other community groups and bodies with specialist knowledge of access for disabled persons were sought directly.
Reference documents, including maps, details of planning proposals likely to affect electorates and existing polling places and the Returning Officer’s comment on them were made available for public inspection.
Having taken account of all representations, the District Council has agreed to:
- Reallocate electorates to polling stations within the Thetford Guildhall East Ward for ease of access to voters
- Appoint the village school at Scarning as the polling station for the parish
- Appoint the village hall at Weeting as the polling station for the parish
- Continue to seek alternatives to caravans as polling stations in the two remaining locations where no alternative has yet become available
- Otherwise retain existing polling districts and places
The reasons for the decisions relating to each polling district and place are as set out in the Returning Officer’s submission and the Working Group report, both of which are available for public inspection, along with:
- all correspondence sent to the Returning Officer in connection with the review
- all correspondence sent by the authority to consultees
- all representations received
- the minutes of the authority relating to the review decisions
- details of the agreed designations and revised polling arrangements
The results of the review have been published and may be inspected at the Council’s offices at Elizabeth House, Walpole Loke, Dereham and Breckland House, St Nicholas Street, Thetford and on the Council’s website. Appeals on the grounds that the review process has not been followed correctly may be made to the Electoral Commission, Trevelyan House, Great Peter Street, London SW1P 2HW, e-mail appeals@electoralcommission.org.uk
