Breckland Council’s Equality Strategy and Race Equality Scheme

' '

Breckland Council is committed to ensuring good relations amongst the community and our staff as an employer and in how we deliver services.  We have outlined this commitment in our Equality Strategy 2005-2008 which incorporates our Race Equality Scheme.

More than just a way of meeting our legal responsibilities, we believe the Equalities Strategy and Race Equality Scheme provide a framework of standards and principles  that will help us promote the economic, social and environmental well-being of the community.  It is a ‘living’ document, which we will revise and update as needs and priorities arise.

Outlined within the Equality Strategy, the Council has agreed to work towards 6 Equality Aims:

 E1  To improve service provision which reflects the needs of our diverse district resulting in improved satisfaction across all areas and a decrease in complaints;
 E2  To provide better access to service and more accessible services;
 E3  To meet all of our legal duties in relation to equal opportunities;
 E4  To have a workforce that is representative of the district;
 E5  To address social, economic and geographical disadvantage; and
 E6  To work in partnership to ensure equalities issues are dealt with effectively across the district.

Breckland Comprehensive Equality Policy 2008-2010.

We are committed to fulfilling our statutory duties under the Race Relations Act and believe that delivering race equality is one of a number of ways we can promote a thriving, caring and inclusive community.  Our aim is to deliver good quality services in a manner that is fair to all people within the district, to ensure everyone is treated fairly, and that our workforce reflects the communities within which we work.  This is reflected in our Comprehensive Equality Policy, please see link above.
