‘Knowing Your Options’
The introduction of the Single Payment Scheme (SPS) at the beginning of 2005 represented the biggest change facing farmers for 30 years. As a result, many farm businesses will require assistance to help them understand the implications of the SPS. Assistance with helping to understand the implications of SPS, recognising the financial impact, evaluating the potential of farm resources and looking at new directions for farm enterprises will be provided in the Eastern region by the Farm Business Advice. This is a free service available for qualifying farmers until March 2007. The advice will identify the effect SPS will have on farm businesses and will encourage farmers to think about options such as restructuring, diversification, co-operation or even developing an exit strategy. A telephone helpline, local advice clinics and farm visits are on offer to support farmers.
