Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering could be anything that you do with your spare time without being paid, which benefits other people and contributes to a service or amenities for community. It could be something you enjoy or have a talent in but, volunteering does not just need to be an act of kindness; it can be an effective way of gaining new skills. This can help improve job prospects as well as allowing you to achieving personal goals whilst putting something back into society. Volunteering is also a great way to meet people.

There are lots of opportunities for volunteering in Breckland. Norwich and Norfolk Volunteer Service is a registered charity and a major development agency that promotes voluntary work offering advice and practical help to volunteers and voluntary organisations.

The British Trust of Conservation Volunteers is a UK wide charity doing environmental, conservation volunteer work. BTCV are committed to improving the quality of life for people in the UK by creating a better environment and valuing people and helping them to be included and involved. The nearest BTCV contact centre is Norwich.

Thetford Area Voluntary Organisation (TAVO) is open to all voluntary and community groups in the Keystone area those outside the area but opperating within can still join as a stakeholder.

TAVO offer a range of training oppertunities, free of charge to members. The courses which are most frequently run include first aid training, basic food hygene training and workshops focusing on finances and management. TAVO also hold netwroking events, a newsletter, a libarary with books available for voluntary and community organisations amoungst other services.

Breckland Community Car Scheme, run by 23 Parish Councils and Breckland Council are always looking for volunteers to transport local people to non-emergancy medical appointments. Volunteer drivers are given 40p per mile.
