08/01/19: New Tenant Fee bill to be discussed at Breckland landlord forum

8 January 2019

The inaugural meeting of the Breckland Landlord Forum has been announced by the National Landlord Association and Breckland Council, aimed at providing expert guidance to landlords needing assistance with tenancy issues, new legislation, benefit payments and EPC advice. Ensuring landlords are fully aware of current legislation, how to deal with building issues and improving EPC ratings will also benefit local tenants and residents, who can then rent a property in the knowledge that properties across Breckland are a safe place to call home. One of the hot topics to be discussed during this meeting will be the proposed new "Tenant Fee Bill" which UK Government is currently taking through Parliament. This new bill will include new rules of security deposits not exceeding the equivalent of six weeks' rent, holding deposits will be capped at no more than one week's rent and price caps on change of tenancy details.

Hosted at Elizabeth House in Dereham, Breckland Council's main office, on January 24th 2019 from 5.30 p.m. this free professional networking event will have established expert guest speakers talking on the latest property and rental hot topics, plus a variety of stands from tradespeople and housing partners within the district. The event will be open to both established and new landlords keen to understand topics on helping reduce damp and condensation in their properties, fire safety and advice on how to generate a return on investments. Expert guest speakers will include Chris Soames from Norfolk Fire and Rescue, Craig Cundey from Glen Dimplex and Inna Melnyk from the National Landlord Association.

Inna Melnyk from the National Landlord Association commented: "The Breckland Landlord Forum is an excellent networking opportunity for any landlord, whether they are new to the market or have years of experience in the sector. We aim to help them understand the very latest legislation in the rental market, explore solutions to building, safety and tenancy issues and help landlords maximise their return on investments within their property portfolio."
