08/02/19: Local lottery proceeds helping to tackle abuse
A Breckland-based charity which supports men and women who have been affected by domestic abuse has announced it is to receive just under £2,600 from the Our Breckland Lottery funding, the lottery game set-up by Breckland Council to help promote and fund local charitable, sporting and community groups.
The Daisy Programme, based in Watton, offers one to one support, individual counselling, group counselling and a 'Freedom Programme' - a 10 week course that looks at perpetrator behaviour and warning signs to look out for in future relationships. Daisy also deliver a confidence course, over 8 weeks which looks at building self-esteem and confidence.
The Our Breckland Lottery was set up in 2018 by Breckland Council. Tickets cost £1 each, with 50p going direct to the player's charity or community group of choice. A spokesperson for The Daisy Group commented "The Daisy Programme has grown consistently over the last three-and-a-half years, growing to deliver a number of support packages to suit our clients including counselling, training, support groups and even a choir. Sadly the demand for our services have risen rapidly since we opened, from 16 support cases in 2015, to 200 in 2018. Thankfully Our Breckland Lottery is helping fund some of our services, which we provide from Watton office and via outreach services.
"Our aim over the next year is to make the hub a success, to promote the toxic trio of mental health, domestic abuse and drug and alcohol addiction. To enable us to maintain our support hub for local people and to provide all the services currently on offer we are aiming to increase our lottery target next year to £5000. The money we've received from the lottery ticket sales is great and we hope even more people will support us in the future."
Cllr Paul Claussen, Executive Member of Place for Breckland Council, commented: "The work delivered by the Daisy Programme has been outstanding and will have made such a difference to local people who have faced domestic abuse. Although it is incredibly sad that such services are needed, I am delighted that some of the money raised through the Our Breckland Lottery is helping to support such a life-changing and hardworking local charity."
The Our Breckland Lottery has draws every Saturday and offers players a chance to win a top prize of £25,000. In addition to the The Daisy Programme, around 50 other charities and community groups are registered as beneficiaries. Tickets can be purchased online atOur Breckland Lottery for just £1, with 50p of ticket sales going directly to a charity of the players choice within Breckland. The remaining money from ticket sales goes into a general grant funding pot and covers the cost of running costs and prizes.
