22/11/19: The elves are back in Breckland!

Elves and Santa PR Dozens of mischievous elves are lost on Breckland's high street and without them Santa Claus might be forced to cancel Christmas. He's sent an urgent message direct from his North Pole headquarters asking the district's residents to help him find his missing mischievous elves, who are hiding in local shops, libraries or leisure centres. Over 100 elves have been hidden, many of them named by local school children who took part in a recent Breckland Council competition to decide the best elf name for Christmas. People who help Santa track down his elves could win a big prize!

To take part in this fun elf hunt, local residents and visitors to Breckland can either download an entry form from www.breckland.gov.uk/elves or collect a form from participating shops when visiting Attleborough, Dereham, Swaffham, Thetford or Watton high streets. Families should look out for the 'Find Your Next Elf Here' posters, which will be on display in participating shop windows, libraries and leisure centres to give eager elf fans a hint of where to look and help them find the name of their local elves.

Each missing Elf will be wearing a special name badge and elf trail participants are asked to collect 12 or more elf names and list their hiding places before handing their entry form into their local Breckland library. Alternatively, people can scan or take a clear photo of their completed form and send it to elves@breckland.gov.uk.

A dozen lucky winners will be randomly selected from all the entries received from people who have found 12 elves or more, sharing a £250 prize fund!

Cllr Mark Robinson, Breckland Council's Executive Member for Community, Leisure and Culture, commented: "We're calling on local people to visit our high streets over the Christmas period to help Santa find his elves and support our high street traders at the same time. Last year's elf trail was incredibly popular and there are some great prizes up for grabs for people who take part."

Breckland Council is also running a virtual elf trail, which residents can join by downloading the free BreckWorld app onto their iPhone or Android device. There is a virtual elf star in each of the market towns. People need to find the star on the app to reveal the elf's name and then add that name to their entry form, along with the 12 elves they've found in local shops. People who find one of the bonus elves via the app will be in with a chance of winning a £50 shopping voucher for the local high street.
