12/06/20: 10,000 meals delivered to vulnerable people across Breckland
Breckland Council passed a significant milestone this week when it despatched its latest food parcels, which contained its 10,000th meal for vulnerable residents in the district.
Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic Breckland Council has been working with a group of dedicated volunteers, partner organisations, local businesses and Council staff to set up, maintain and deliver hundreds of food parcels to some of the most vulnerable residents in the district. The response had ensured over 10,000 meals were distributed for local vulnerable residents who were shielding or suffering hardship due to Covid-19
Leader of Breckland Council, Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen visited the hub this week to recognise this important milestone and personally thank the volunteers and Council staff on duty for their vital work in the community. Food parcels have been sent out weekly from this central hub, circulated to those most in need within Breckland since early weeks of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Cllr Chapman-Allen commented: "I am incredibly proud of everyone who has contributed to supporting the most vulnerable residents in our communities. The team work from council staff, volunteers, partners and local businesses has made a massive difference to so many people and I'm delighted to have reached such a tremendous milestone. The pandemic has brought many challenges, but the community spirit and resolve has truly shown the district at its best."
