20/07/20: Watton fly tippers fined £1200
Two separate households in Lovell Gardens, Watton, have been issued with collective fines totalling £1200 for fly tipping.
Between March and April 2020, Breckland Council's Enforcement Team built a robust case after repeated fly tipping, anti-social behaviour and roadside vehicle repairs were reported by local residents. With support from local councillors, members of the public, and the council's partners, Breckland Council were able to issue a number of serious fines and provide the culprits with advice about legal disposal of their waste in the future.
One household in the estate were responsible for fly tipping a washing machine, mattresses, beds and car parts, which resulted in a £400 fixed penalty notice and a warning for conducting repairs to vehicles at the roadside.
A second household, which had previously received a warning following a fly tipping incident in 2018, was fined £800 for multiple fly tips of household bin bags.
Cllr Gordon Bambridge, Executive Member for Environmental Services and Public Protection, commented: "Fly tipping is simply not acceptable in our community and I hope these fines and the advice about local services that we have provided, sends a strong message that we must all deal with waste legally and responsibly."
