07/10/2020: Council's community lottery raises £100,000 for good causes
Breckland Council's community lottery has now raised more than £100,000 for local charities, community groups and sporting associations in the district.
The Our Breckland Lottery, which offers a weekly £25,000 jackpot draw, started in 2018 and supports over 80 different Breckland charities, sporting groups and voluntary groups.
Proceeds from each £1 ticket sale goes directly to supporting local groups and has helped fund community projects, sports equipment, training and even the running costs of an animal ambulance.
In addition, a proportion of the ticket sale money goes into a General Community Fund, which saw £10,000 allocated to local food banks during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Lottery draws take place weekly with prizes ranging from free tickets, up to a possible £25,000 jackpot. For every £1 lottery ticket sold, 60p goes to good causes and the local community. Players can decide which good cause they want to support when they buy their tickets or can choose for their money to go into the general Community Fund. The remaining 40p from ticket sales goes to the prize fund and running costs.
Cllr Mark Robinson, Breckland Council, Executive Member for Community, Leisure & Culture, commented: "We launched the Our Breckland Lottery to help raise the profile of local community groups and give them an easy way to raise all important funds to help with day-to-day running costs or go towards a bigger project. We are delighted to see over £100,000 has now been raised for good causes in Breckland and would thank everyone who has bought a ticket since it started.."
George Rockingham, from PACT animal sanctuary, commented: "We would like to thank everyone who has bought a ticket to support us and other local charities. Your ticket purchases have helped us operate our Animal Ambulance and look after the various animals in our care. Financial donations are vitally important for any charity, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic when normal fundraising activities are not possible. We would like to say a massive thank you to all our players for supporting us and all of the other groups involved."
Tickets and further information about the lottery, including applications from organisations wishing to become beneficiaries of the lottery areavailable via the Our Breckland Lottery website..
