23/11/20: Breckland Council distributes £1 million grants to businesses
Breckland Council has now distributed more than £1 million in grants to local businesses to help them through the current period of restrictions, with further funding available.
The Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG) scheme, which is funding by central government, is available to businesses that have been required to close due to the coronavirus restrictions. To make sure it helps as many businesses as possible, the council has already written to more 1400 which are eligible for the grant and is now urging those who have yet to reply to get in contact to process applications and ensure payments can be made.
To qualify for this grant, a business must be in the Breckland area, have been registered for business rates and trading before November 2020, and be required to close due to Government restrictions. Businesses that have been mandated to close by Government includes non-essential retail, leisure, personal care, sports facilities and hospitality businesses.
Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen, Breckland Council's Leader, commented: "Throughout this pandemic our focus has been on protecting the welfare of our residents and the buoyancy of our businesses. Earlier this year we helped support local businesses through the early stages of the pandemic with just under £30 million in local and national grants, while this latest £1m will help them weather the storm of the latest restrictions. I urge any businesses in Breckland to come forward to see what funding and advice we can offer. I'd also like to encourage residents to support our high streets this Christmas by choosing to shop local, either via local traders' websites or in person following the safety guidance."
To access the funding, eligible businesses simply need to complete a short form on our website at www.breckland.gov.uk/local-restrictions-support-grant. For those businesses not eligible for the LRSG funding, a new additional restrictions grant has also been launched to support other businesses.
