06/04/21: Breckland's Inspiring Communities programme launches new 2021 funding scheme
Breckland Council is inviting groups across the district to come forward to access grant funding to help them deliver initiatives which benefit their local communities.
The district council's 2021/22 'Inspiring Communities' funding programme is offering grants worth up to £5000. Last year, the council released over £91,000 in grant funding to support a wide range of schemes. Projects which received financial support included Kenninghall Parish Council for new play equipment, the Athena Education group for financial workshops to support Thetford families, The Benjamin Foundation to help deliver essential youth work in Watton, and the Steps Programme to support and mentor Sixth Form students in Dereham.
Cllr Mark Robinson, Executive Member for Community, Leisure & Culture, commented: "Our Inspiring Communities programme is driven by collaboration with a wide range of key stakeholders, including organisations like the Daisy Programme in Watton, Tripstart in Dereham, Norfolk Police, and Breckland Youth Advisory Board. We aim to lead, enable and support a number of initiatives which help our residents when they need it most. As part of that process, we are now opening a new round of community funding and we urge local community groups, charities, and parish councils to come forward with their projects to see if we can help make them a reality and make a real difference to local communities."
The grant funding is part of Breckland's ongoing Inspiring Communities programme, which has seen more than £1m ring-fenced to support projects which are particularly focused on dealing with County Lines drug and people trafficking, mental health support, social isolation, loneliness, and supporting people who have experienced domestic abuse. However, projects put forward for a £5k community grant do not need to be focused on these themes.
