About the project

In March 2021 a major new initiative to support the long-term success of Breckland began.

The project, Future Breckland: Thriving People & Places, is intended to provide a robust evidence base and compelling shared vision for the future of the district. With a specific focus on Breckland's five market towns, Dereham, Thetford, Attleborough, Watton and Swaffham, the programme will focus on identifying significant projects that can be delivered in our towns for the benefit of the District as a whole. This work should put Breckland in pole-position to leverage new external funding, whilst also using our shared resources better to deliver transformational change across the district.

"By creating a shared vision, local organisations can align their priorities and ensure we are all pulling towards the same goal. This will ensure Breckland's success going forward and put as in pole position when it comes to bidding for national funding, which can be spent making the district even better for our residents and businesses." - Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen, Breckland Council's Leader

The programme is expected to run for around a year and will see the creation of an overarching vision for the district, with specific plans for each of the five towns, and identified priorities which tackle challenges while capitalising on the district's strengths.

The programme team, led by economic specialists Hatch, with urbanists We Made That, will be working closely with residents, businesses, and stakeholders throughout the duration of the next year.

The team will be focusing on developing a plan for Dereham April to July, with work to follow for the remaining four market towns.
