13/09/21: Enhanced play area opens to Yaxham families

Children in Yaxham are now able to enjoy a newly-enhanced play area which officially opened over the weekend, following the completion of a £23,000 refurbishment project.
Officially opening the play area to local residents on Saturday, Cllr Alison Webb, Executive Member for Housing, Health & Communities at Breckland Council, was delighted to see the newly installed climbing frames, environmentally-friendly flooring, and new picnic benches put in place to allow parents and children to enjoy the space together and catch up with friends in an open space. The new-look play area has also seen a brand new slide and climbing area installed and existing swings refurbished.
The project received a £5000 contribution from Breckland Council's Inspiring Communities fund. The grant is part of a wider £1 million investment over three years to support local groups within Breckland. The aim of the programme is to help break down isolation in our community, support good mental health, whilst tackling issues around domestic abuse, isolation and County Lines.
Cllr Alison Webb commented: "I am really happy that our Inspiring Communities fund has been able to support this wonderful facility in Yaxham. Children and parents benefit so much from playing outside and meeting up with friends and family and I'm sure this new play area will be really well-used by the local community."
Ian Martin, Chairman of Yaxham Parish Council thanked those local residents and funders involved in making this project happen, including Yaxham parish councillors Chris Couves and Bob Gust, who led the project, and Breckland Council for the grant that helped make this happen.  He commented: "It is great to have this play space safely open again and available for the whole community to use.  This is the completion of the first phase of the project which is for the under 13's.  The next phase will be to consult and raise funds for equipment for the 13-17 year-olds."
The play project refurbishment cost a total of £23,000 and was also supported by Yaxham Parish Council and Yaxham Parish Charity. The project was organised and delivered by the parish council. Children living nearby and from Yaxham Primary School were specially invited to take part in the official opening.
