14/06/22: Car parking trial feedback welcomed

Residents and businesses in and around Attleborough are being invited to share their views on the parking trial that is underway at the town's Queen's Square Car Park.

The trial aims to increase the availability of parking spaces and enable even more shoppers to visit the wide range of independent high street shops. It has been in operation since late March 2022 and limits drivers to a free three-hour stay between 08:00 and 18:00, Monday to Saturday. Allowances have been made to allow market traders using the marked market trader bays on Thursdays. Breckland's other car parks in the area have remained available for long-stay use, alongside privately-run car parks. 

This first stage of the trial has allowed everyone time to adapt to this new parking service. As the trail enters the final three months Breckland Council has asked for feedback from residents and local businesses to examine how the community feel about the recent changes.

Cllr Paul Hewett, Breckland's Executive Member for Projects, Property and Procurement, said: "I recently visited Attleborough with other Breckland ward members and listened to feedback from residents and businesses about the car park trial.  Many felt the trial was opening the town up to shoppers and helping visitors access parking spaces in the centre of town, which is great news.  We are now looking for feedback to formally gather people's views and comments on their experience of the trial and help inform our next steps. Residents and businesses, who have now adapted to trial, need to consider the long-term potential this new service could offer in the future, helping our town centre to thrive and prosper. We welcome any comments that will help build upon the ambitions of this current trial.  Our council officers are also working hard to identify new opportunities for long term parking within the town and link into the wider travel strategy for those residents looking to park in Attleborough for a longer period."
