21/11/18: Attleborough Trash Tribe comes together to tackle litter
Pure Clean Earth, a new online environmental group, have started a new "Trash Tribe" in Attleborough, aimed at raising awareness of environmental issues within the local community and helping to run regular litter picks in Attleborough. The first litter pick attracted not only local residents, but also participants from Norwich and Birmingham!
Pure Clean Earth was started online by local Attleborough resident Daniel Reynolds, and has now turned into a global movement, with a network of Trash Tribe volunteers working in their local communities helping to reduce plastic waste and use in society. One dedicated group, which Daniel helped start in Spain, now holds regular litter picks along the beached in Barcelona, Spain collecting hundreds of kilograms of waste each during each pick. During their recent litter pick in Attleborough Pure Clean Earth were amazed at the quantity collect and found an assortment of plastics thrown away including drinks bottles, plastic tie-wraps and polystyrene.
Breckland Council are supporting Pure Clean Earth with litter pick equipment and waste collection, whilst Tesco's in Thetford have provided a number of long life bags to help collect the litter. The Sunday Trash Tribe litter picks start at 11 a.m. till 12.30, with new pick up dates including November 25th, December 2nd and 9th
Cllr Paul Claussen, Executive Member for Place at Breckland Council stated "Tackling litter, especially plastics, in our local community is essential to a better, cleaner environment for us all to enjoy. I am delighted Pure Clean Earth have started litter picks in Attleborough and ask residents to join in, have some fun and help rid our local community of unwanted litter, especially plastic."
