How do I bid for a property?

Message to Key Select Customers

You may be wondering why there have been fewer properties advertised on Breckland Key Select website for you to bid on (apply for).  Breckland Council has needed urgent housing for an increased number of homeless households, which reduces the number advertised.  The housing teams recognise that many applicants for social housing have a need for housing but with the limited number of social housing available the Council must make difficult decisions when prioritising housing need but we hope this will improve very soon.

A few properties will continue to be advertised but if there have been no suitable properties for you to bid on then please be assured that your application will not be cancelled for failing to place a bid in six months.  Please continue to log in regularly to see if properties are being advertised.

If you can rent privately then that will be a quicker solution.  If your circumstances have changed and you are at risk of becoming homeless within the next two months, please telephone Breckland Council.

How to Bid

To bid you will need tolog on with your Breckland Key Select application ID and password which was emailed to you with your banding in principal email by the Housing Team.

Then use the properties search facility to see what properties are available to bid on.

Available properties are advertised weekly on theBreckland Key Select website which you can access through your own PC or a PC in other locations such asLibraries and information points

Properties will appear on the website and be available for bidding on from midnight on Wednesday through to midnight on the following Monday.

The adverts tell you who the landlord of the property is, where it is located, the size of the dwelling (number of bedrooms), whether pets are allowed, the rent and other features which will help you to decide if you wish to make a bid or not. The advert will also inform you if there are conditions that you have to meet in order to bid for the property. An example of this might be a minimum age requirement or a local connection to the area.

We want to ensure that the information that you are given on properties allows you to decide if it suits your needs. Before you make a bid, you may wish to:

  • Check out the location of the property on the map facility to see if it is in an area you would be happy to live in? Would you easily be able to get to the amenities you need, e.g. doctors, shops, schools or church? Further information about the location of a property can be found by using the link on the advert to the Up my Street website.
  • The size of the property is suitable for your needs. How many bed spaces are there? The advert will state how many bed spaces/people can live in the property.
  • The advert will state the floor level which flats and maisonettes are on and if there is lift access. Before bidding think if you can manage the stairs or are able to use a lift?
  • If you would like to consider alternative housing options, further information can be found on the housing options pages of this website.

Registered applicants of the Breckland Key Select scheme will be able to bid for a maximum of 2 properties in each bidding cycle.

Having made your choice and after going in to the property details, you can then highlight this property by ticking in the box on the left of the advert and use the Place Bid button.
