The Keep Britain Tidy #SpringClean project is coming to Thetford with a community litter pick planned for 30 March.

Throughout the pandemic people across the UK have got more involved in keeping their communities tidy and protecting local wildlife from littering. In a recent Keep Britain Tidy survey of people who took part in 2021 Spring Clean, 86 per cent said volunteering helped improve their mood, up from up 79 per cent in 2020. More than half (52 per cent) agreed it helped them meet new people and make friends, and a staggering 91 per cent agreed they felt more pride in their local area after participating. Almost everybody surveyed (98 per cent) agreed the Spring Clean litter picks reduced the impact of litter on wildlife and the natural environment.

The Thetford community litter pick, organised by Breckland Council, starts at 10:00 on 30 March next to the Light cinema in Thetford, finishing around noon, with litter pick equipment provided.

Cllr Sarah Suggitt, Executive Member for Planning, Leisure and Contracts, at Breckland Council commented: "This is a great opportunity to enjoy a lovely walk by the beautiful river Thet in the heart of the town, meeting other volunteers, whilst protecting our environment by collecting litter along the river paths. The Keep Britain Tidy Spring Clean is now in its seventh year and growing every year nationwide, as volunteers see the true benefit of being involved, helping their community, meeting new people, and improving their wellbeing."
