04/08/2025: Local Council gives a helping hand to Swaffham based mental health charity

Breckland Council is pleased to announce a collaboration with the Swaffham and District Mental Health Association to renovate some of the Merle Boddy Centre, located at Station Yard in Swaffham. This joint effort aims to create a more welcoming and therapeutic environment for the community members who rely on the centre's vital services.
The Merle Boddy Centre, an integral part of the Swaffham community, provides crucial daycare services for individuals living with conditions such as dementia and Parkinson's as well as mental health and social isolation. The centre operates under an internal structure and repair lease provided by Breckland Council.
The renovation project will focus on both the exterior and interior of the Merle Boddy Centre. The initial phase involved external maintenance and improvements. Volunteers and staff also painted sheds, and planters to refresh the centre's appearance.
In a generous gesture, a member of Breckland Council donated plants to add colour and vibrancy to the outdoor area, creating a serene and inviting space for visitors and staff alike.
Looking ahead, plans are underway for internal paintwork and the installation of new signage to enhance the building's visibility and accessibility.
Cllr Paul Hewett, Executive Member for Property, Project and Procurement, said: "It is great to partner with the Swaffham and District Mental Health Association for this important project. Our goal is to ensure that the Merle Boddy Centre continues to be a welcoming haven for those who need it most."
Cllr David Wickerson and Cllr Judy Anscombe, Ward Members for Swaffham, added:"We are so pleased to see Breckland Council investing in such a vital community asset. The Merle Boddy Centre offers residents much needed support with mental health, social isolation and conditions such as dementia and the renovation is going to help create a more calming environment for everyone who attends."
