03/10/2025: Special Recognition RSPCA award for Breckland Officer alongside Platinum and Gold accolades

Breckland Council is delighted to announce that it has picked up multiple accolades at this year's prestigious RSPCA PawPrints awards. The council is particularly proud to share that its Animal Licensing Officer, Alan Goodall, has won a Special Recognition Award for his outstanding commitment to animal licensing in Breckland.
In his role, Alan has grown licences in the district from 40 to over 100, has tackled illegal breeders through creative strategies in partnership with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), and built regional networks, which are now recognised as an example of good practice by DEFRA.
On top of this, Breckland has won a Platinum Award for Stray Dog Services for the third year in a row and Gold Award for Kennelling for the second consecutive time. This builds on a winning streak that started in 2018.
This national recognition highlights Breckland's ongoing dedication to caring for animals in the district and its commitment to creating a compassionate and responsible service for pet owners.
Breckland Council's Dog Warden Service reunites stray dogs with their loving owners and has also been a trailblazer in championing animal welfare initiatives, working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of pets and stray animals in the district. Efforts have included online educational campaigns and proactive stray dog management.
The PawPrints Awards celebrate the work of local public sector organisations and individuals in going the extra mile to protect and promote animal welfare and is the only scheme of its kind in England and Wales.
Cllr Helen Crane, Executive Member for Licensing at Breckland Council, said: "We are thrilled to see Alan's hard work acknowledged with this Special Achievement Award, and delighted for the whole team, who continue to set high standards in Stray Dog Services and Kennelling.
"At Breckland, we know that pets are part of the family, which is why we prioritise ensuring our residents have access to the highest-quality services for their care."
Lee Gingell, Public Affairs Manager at the RSPCA, said: "We're delighted to recognise Breckland Council in this year's RSPCA PawPrints Awards. Their commitment to animal welfare is truly commendable, and we hope their example inspires others to strive for excellence."
