District Wide Shop Front Design Guide - Consultation
The public was invited to share their feedback on the Shopfront Design Guide (DRAFT) 2025 (PDF, 10 MB)(opens new window)
This guide was developed for the entire district with the aim of preserving and enhancing the historic features of shopfronts in all our market towns. It provided practical advice to support businesses, developers, and planners in creating high-quality, historically sensitive designs that contribute to the character and visual appeal of local areas.
The document was part of a wider effort to protect the heritage of our market towns and help our high streets thrive. By preserving their historic charm, we aimed to make these areas more attractive and successful for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Following the public consultation and its approval, the district-wide Shop Front Design Guide has now become official planning policy, guiding future developments and restorations.
