Local Plan Full Update 2022-2042
Breckland's new Local Plan will shape our district to 2042. It will help ensure that planning decisions are made in the best interests of our communities. Everyone with an interest in their local area can have their say. The more people that get involved, the better the aspirations of our communities will be reflected.

As part of the Update, the Council undertook a series of public consultations between April 2022 and June 2024 including a Call for Sites exercise as well as public consultation on Issues and Options, development Options and a Draft Regulation Plan.
In 2024, Breckland Council paused work on their Local Plan update (opens new window) due to proposed changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). The government's consultation, which ended in September 2024, included a significant increase in the district's housing requirement, potentially requiring a 47% increase in the number of homes built annually. This pause was necessary to review the revised NPPF and its implications for the Local Plan, which also impacts Breckland's housing needs.
Work on the Review recommenced in March 2025 when the Council agreed a revised timetable at a Special Cabinet Meeting (opens new window).
