Report a Death

We understand this is a difficult time. This page explains how the 'Tell Us Once' service works and how you can contact Breckland Council directly if you have not used the service.

Registering a death

Breckland Council does not register deaths.
Death registrations in this area are carried out by Norfolk County Council.

Tell us Once service

The 'Tell Us Once' service is provided by the government and is designed to help make reporting a death easier, and take some of the stress away.

  • Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) - to cancel benefits like Jobseekers Allowance and Income Support
  • HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) - to deal with personal tax
  • Us, your local council - to cancel benefits like Housing Benefit, to update Council Tax records, and to remove the person from the electoral register
  • For more information and to use the Tell us Once service, please visit GOV.UK Tell Us Once (opens new window)
