The Anglia Revenues and Benefits Partnership currently collects the Business Rates (National Non-Domestic Rates) for Breckland Council on behalf of Central Government.
The Anglia Revenues and Benefits Partnership is currently made up of Forest Heath District Council Revenue Services and Breckland Council Revenue Services. We are working together to provide quality services for all our residents across the two authority areas.
What are Business Rates?
Business Rates are a national tax on business properties that help to fund local services
- The Business Rate is paid into a Central Government pool which is then spread among all the councils according to the number of people who live in the area.
- Breckland Council has no control over the amount of rates you have to pay.
- Our share of the Business Rate distribution covers around a quarter of the cost of our services. The rest comes from Government grants and Council Tax.
- The Business Rate also helps to pay for services provided by Norfolk County Council and the Norfolk Police.
- Enclosed with your bill is a booklet explaining how the money is spent.
Who has to pay Business Rates?
- In most cases the occupier of the property
- The owner or leaseholder of empty properties
How much do I pay?
- Business Rate is calculated by multiplying the rateable value of your property by the multiplier set by the Government. Your rates bill states the total due, when payments should be made and how much they are.
