11/12/2023: Council urges responsible waste disposal during festive season

Breckland Council has asked residents and businesses to ensure extra waste created over the festive period is left at local recycling centres, recycled or even donated to charity. The Enforcement Team at Breckland Council have been out sharing educational leaflets, speaking to residents and issuing fines to fly tippers caught dumping waste.

Recently in Mundford waste was found in a scenic woodland. After a detailed investigation the original waste owner was served with a £200 penalty fine for negligence in waste management which was promptly paid by the individual.

Similarly, incidents in Thetford and Attleborough resulted in £320 penalties each for residents found guilty of dumping waste in public areas. Finally, the owner of an abandoned written-off vehicle, left by the road in a dangerous location to other road users, was not only fined £200, but also charged for the removal and destruction of the vehicle.

Councillor Helen Crane, Executive Member for Waste at Breckland Council commented: "These incidents are regrettable and hamper our community's efforts to maintain clean environments. It's disappointing that some continue to disregard responsible waste disposal. Especially during the festive season, we urge everyone to utilize local recycling centres for excess waste disposal. Let's keep our neighbourhoods clean and safe."
