Hours: Part time, 10 hours per week - usual working hours will be between 5pm-7pm.
Place of Work: Dereham plus other Breckland Sites as required

We're on the lookout for a dedicated Cleaner to join our friendly team and help keep Breckland Council's offices clean, hygienic, and welcoming for staff and visitors alike.

Working as part of our Property & Estates team, you'll play a key role in creating a safe, fresh, and comfortable environment that reflects our values and shows pride in the spaces we manage.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Carry out daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitising all areas.
  • Keep washrooms and kitchen spaces spotless, restocking supplies like soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
  • Empty waste bins and dispose of rubbish responsibly.
  • Work safely and responsibly, following all health and safety guidance.
  • Flag any maintenance or safety issues to your supervisor.
  • Travel to other sites when needed, with mileage support provided.

You're someone who:

  • Takes pride in doing a thorough job and leaves things better than you found them.
  • Is reliable, punctual, and can be trusted to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Has previous cleaning experience (ideally in office or commercial settings).
  • Knows their way around common cleaning tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Understands the importance of safety and follows guidance around cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Has good communication skills and a positive, helpful attitude

Description of Duties

Primary Functional Objectives of the Role:

  • Perform cleaning tasks as assigned, ensuring all areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust designated areas, including floors, carpets, furniture, and fixtures.
  • Empty and clean waste bins and dispose of rubbish appropriately.
  • Clean and sanitize washrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen areas, including countertops, sinks, and appliances.
  • Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels as needed.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the supervisor promptly.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and effective completion of cleaning tasks.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Previous Cleaning Experience: Demonstrated experience in cleaning roles, preferably in commercial settings.
  • Basic Cleaning Skills: Proficiency in fundamental cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing.
  • Knowledge of Cleaning Products and Equipment: Familiarity with common cleaning products, tools, and equipment used in the cleaning industry.
  • Health and Safety Awareness: Understanding of basic health and safety practices related to cleaning, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Reliability and Punctuality: Proven track record of reliability and punctuality in previous roles, with the ability to adhere to assigned work schedules.
  • Ability to travel to other sites when/if required.

Desirable

  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and a meticulous approach to cleaning tasks, ensuring thoroughness and quality in all work performed.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing cleaning requirements and schedules, with a willingness to take on additional tasks or responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Must hold a full valid driving licence

Desirable

  • Completed Health and Safety training with essential knowledge on safe handling of cleaning chemicals, hazard identification, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency procedures. Certifications such as COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) or IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).
