Report a Dangerous Structure

Breckland Council has a statutory duty under the Building Act 1984 to investigate buildings, or structures, that appear to be in a dangerous condition and may pose a risk to the public.

A dangerous structure can include anything from loose roof tiles and failing chimneys to collapsing walls, fire damaged buildings, or abandoned structures left insecure.

If you believe a building, or structure, is dangerous, please report it immediately using our online form below. If you are unsure whether something is classed as dangerous, please still report it as our team of surveyors will assess it.

How to Report a Dangerous Structure

If you believe a building or structure is dangerous, please report it using the link below

Report a Dangerous Structure

If needed, then a Building Control Surveyor will inspect the structure to assess the level of risk. We will identify and notify the property owner, requiring them to take appropriate steps to remove the danger and make the structure safe. Where necessary, the Council may consider formal action under the Building Act 1984.

Cost Recovery

If Breckland Council is required to intervene because the owner fails to act, we may carry out the necessary emergency works and recover all related costs under the Building Act 1984.
