BFOI-016198 - Environmental Enforcement Roles

Pay scales and grading structure for council roles carrying out environmental enforcement duties.

Request

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000. In order to assist you with this request, I am outlining my request as specifically as possible. Please provide the following:

Details of pay scales and salary bands for:

  • Environmental Enforcement Officers (or equivalent, e.g. Waste Management Officer). Please separately provide a list of job grades used, along with their terminology.

I would be interested in any information held by your organisation regarding my request.

I understand that I do not have to specify particular files or documents and that it is the department's responsibility to provide the information I require.

Response

Environmental enforcement duties are carried out within some existing job roles. The terminology we use for these roles includes:

  • Environmental Health Officers that carry out Environmental Protection duties as part of their role. However, their role is much wider than just Environmental Enforcement.
  • Senior Environmental Protection Officer (interim/acting up position).
  • Safer Streets Warden.

The Council does not use separate or specialist grading terminology for environmental enforcement functions; all roles sit within the Council's standard grading structure.

Environmental Health Officer

  • Grade: 7
  • Salary: £37,763 - £43,882

Senior Environmental Protection Officer (interim/temporary post)

  • This role is not exclusive to environmental enforcement but includes some relevant responsibilities.
  • Salary information linked to the acting up position is held; however, due to the individual involved, disclosing the grade and associated salary band would be likely to identify an individual. Therefore, this information is withheld under Section 40(2) of the FOIA (personal data).

Safer Streets Wardens

These roles also carry out aspects of environmental enforcement.

  • Grade: 9
  • Salary: £25,539 - £31,645

Exemptions Applied

Section 40(2) - Personal Information

Information has been withheld where the Council considers that disclosure would be likely to identify an individual due to the very small team sizes involved. Disclosure of this information would contravene the UK GDPR, and therefore Section 40(2) of the FOIA applies.
