Black and green bin changes

Why are we making changes?

Following the closure of a site where we transferred waste to, we have had to take steps to replan our routes, to ensure we collect your waste in the most efficient way, travelling as few miles as possible.  As a result, your collection day and time may be changing, and you will be notified by receiving a new collection calendar in the post.

When are the bin day changes happening?

From the week commencing Monday 26 February.

Will my collections be changed?

About 61% of people will have a change to their recycling and household waste collection day or the order in which your bin colours are collected may change, and even if your bin day and order of collection stays the same, it may be collected at a new time.

We will be sending a leaflet to everyone to explain these changes.

When will my bins be collected?

We will write to all residents with this information so look out for a leaflet in the post between Monday 29 January and Friday 16 February.

Collections happen any time during the day from 6.30 am. All bins must be out for collection by 6.30 am on collection day, or the evening before.

To find out when your next collection in you can visit our theMy Breckland page on our website.

Please note the page only shows your next scheduled collection only and will not reflect the day changes for the week commencing 26 February.

Will my garden waste collections change?

Yes, there will be changes to garden waste collections too. If you are subscribed to the garden waste collection service, we will be sending you a separate leaflet detailing how the changes affect you. You can also visit our FAQ page to find out more information.

I haven't received a leaflet, when will I receive one?

All leaflets will be sent by second class post to be received by 19 February, if you have not received one by this date you can check online or can request via email norfolkwaste@serco.com or by calling 0330 1099 220.

My household waste will not be collected for more than 4 days. What do I do with the waste or recycling I cannot fit into my bins?

If your collection is going to be delayed by 4 days, we will collect one extra sack placed next to your green bin on your first new green bin collection day w/c 4 March.

I need to go for a longer time than usual between my recycling collections. What do I do with the recycling I cannot fit into my black bin?

We will take any extra recycling that is next to your black bin in clear bags. Large cardboard boxes need to be flattened and broken down into smaller pieces no wider than 0.5m to fit the recycling compartment of our trucks.

My collection day hasn't changed, why do I have to put my bin out by 6.30am?

Our collections can start as early as 6.30am. Your day may not have changed but the order in which we collect your household waste and recycling bins may have changed. Or other collections on your round may have changed, both of which will affect your collection time. Don't miss a collection, always put your bin out by 6.30 am on your collection day, or the evening before.

If my collection day has changed, when will I be notified?

Leaflets will be delivered by 16 February.

I haven't been notified of a change, but my neighbour has. Am I affected?

All residents will be sent a leaflet confirming your collection day between Monday 29 January and Friday 16 February. If you have not received yours by Monday 19 February you can check online, request a copy via email norfolkwaste@serco.com or by calling 0330 1099 220.

I need a large print version of the leaflet; how can I do this?

For the accessible versions of the calendars you can download them through ouraccessible bin collection calendars.

I need the leaflet in a different language, how can I do this?

To request the calendars in a different language please email norfolkwaste@serco.com or by calling 0330 1099 220.

If my collection is missed collection, will you come back?

Please check that it is the right day for your bin to be collected. If it is the right day for your collection and we haven't taken your bin by the end of your collection day (6.00 pm) then please report check theBin Collection Service Announcements before reporting a missed collection and follow the instruction on this page.

We will be recording bins which have not been put out for collection on our onboard computers and if your bin was not out for collection when the crew visited your we will not come back to collect until your next collection is due.

Please remember to place your bins out by 6.30am.

I cannot move my bin to put it out for collection due to disability or ill health and have help with my collections, will this be affected if my day changes?

If you are subscribed to our assisted collection service our teams will continue to collect your bin from its normal storage space, take it to the bin lorry for emptying, and then return it back to its storage space.
