06/06/22: Grants awarded to help Breckland residents celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee

Almost 30 neighbourhood, charity and community organisations in Breckland have been awarded funding by Breckland Council as part of a special Queen's Jubilee Grants programme.
This year, the country is coming together for a year-long Platinum Jubilee celebration of The Queen's seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6 February 1952. An extended bank holiday from 2 to 5 June will provide an opportunity for communities to come together to celebrate this historic milestone.
To support local celebrations, Breckland Council created a grants Programme with up to £500 per application to help local groups to run events that celebrate and mark the Platinum Jubilee in the district. The range of local events will enable communities to take part in celebrations within their communities that are easily accessible and free to attend. The events that will share the total of £12,700 grant funding include parties, picnics, sports days, fetes, quizzes, and community barbeques.
Cllr Alison Webb, Executive Member for Housing, Health & Communities at Breckland Council commented: "Her Majesty The Queen is one of Britain's most remarkable and steadfast monarchs who has dedicated herself to our country. We are therefore delighted to be able to support an amazing range of events across Breckland to honour her reign and I'm looking forward to joining the celebrations on this historic occasion."
"By allocating funding to lots of different voluntary organisations in towns and villages across Breckland there should be a celebration near you, so please join in the festivities as we mark this once in a lifetime event."
Breckland Council is delivering a wide range of projects to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, including:
- Planting over 700 trees as part of the Queen's Canopy project.
- A Jubilee trail in Breckland market towns.
- A £1,000 bursary for Breckland students who need support taking their next educational step.
