22/06/22: Breckland Council celebrates Armed Forces Day

To commemorate this year's Armed Forces Day Breckland Council have raised the Armed Services flag.

The flag ceremony held in Dereham was led by Cllr Mike Nairn, Chairman of Breckland Council. Breckland Council is a leading supporter of the Armed Forces Covenant which ensures those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

Cllr Nairn commented at the ceremony: "As someone who has served in the British Army, I feel its invaluable that we take time to reflect and show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets. Here in Breckland we have a very proud history linked to the Armed Forces community. Showing our support here today for the Armed Forces provides a much valued and essential morale boost for our troops and their families."

"We cannot let today pass without sharing our prayers and hopes for peace in Ukraine. What is happening in Ukraine highlights more than ever the need for the UK to have a strong military deterrent to protect our nation from aggression, and to provide aid and support to our allies and nations around the world suffering from natural disasters or conflict. As a district, I promised we will play our part by supporting Ukrainian refugees in our community, ensuring their future is safe and peaceful whilst under our care."
