Breckland Council, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and manufacturing businesses from across Thetford are working together to help raise awareness around exciting training and career opportunities within the area.

At the launch of the partnership today (25 May), Thetford businesses welcomed the development of new website which has been produced by Breckland Council and DWP, specifically aimed at showcasing opportunities within the area. The new website Make it in Thetford (opens new window) is a one stop shop for people looking for training information and jobs, bringing together numerous opportunities from various Thetford manufacturing employers onto one central website.

The initiative was launched by Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen, Leader of Breckland Council, at Thetford's The Light cinema, in front of local business representatives and national employers. The attendees included Peerless, Baxter Healthcare and Warren Services.

Thetford has a long history in manufacturing and now hosts a wide selection of manufacturers from the world of engineering, healthcare, household products and new technology exporting across the globe. Employers, with the support of Breckland Council and DWP, are looking to increase new apprenticeship opportunities and recruit qualified staff to help meet their increasing business needs in a global market.

Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen, Leader of Breckland Council, commented: ""Thetford, an industrious manufacturing town, proudly boasts a rich heritage. Embracing the transformative potential of technology and automation, the modern manufacturing sector has evolved into an exceptionally efficient and forward-thinking industry, serving as a cornerstone for the advancement of Thetford. With its remarkable ability to offer training and career prospects for Thetford residents, this newly introduced scheme will further enhance accessibility to these opportunities. By doing so, it will propel both our fantastic local communities and local businesses towards an upward trajectory, solidifying their position of strength and prosperity."

Julia Nix, District Manager for East Anglia at Department for Work & Pensions,  commented: "I was delighted to represent the Department for Work and Pensions to jointly launch this partnership to raise awareness of the amazing manufacturing companies that conduct business internationally, all from Thetford.  We are now looking forward to developing this partnership further to enable these businesses to identify talented local potential employees."
