Breckland Council has gifted a small woodland to a local parish council to help support its efforts in protecting wildlife and enhancing green spaces for residents.

Ownership of Prince Harry's Wood and the surrounding land moved from Breckland Council to Old Buckenham Parish Council in June. The parish council is looking to work with Norfolk Wildlife Trust and other experts to further increase biodiversity in the area and ensure it remains an attractive space for scenic walks and outdoor activities.

Cllr Paul Hewett, Executive Member for Property, Projects & Procurement at Breckland Council, said: "This is a great example of local government working together for the good of local residents. By gifting ownership of this land we can continue our legacy of sustainability in the district while enabling the parish council to realise its vision of further enhancing local green spaces and protecting the habitat for wildlife."

Cllr Stephen Askew, Ward Member for The Buckenhams & Banham, added: "I'm very pleased that Old Buckenham Parish Council have grasped the opportunity offered by Breckland and I look forward to the enhancement of Prince Harry's Wood for the benefit of wildlife and the local community alike."
